somatically-based, experiential, mindful therapy
CLIENT-CENTERED APPROACH:
I hold the belief that we are remarkable and unique beings with the capacity to
heal and grow. I believe we were born with an authentic, Core Self, but that
we learned early on that our authentic forms of expression did not get our needs met
so we developed neural pathways that keep us protected or meet our needs, but we
don’t learn to feel or deal with the corresponding core emotions that didn’t serve us.
As adults, we find it becomes harder to mask or ignore those core emotions and it takes
more and unhealthier strategies to keep those protections in place. Often, clients come to
me because “talk therapy” or “intellectualization” hasn’t worked and they are eager to find
long lasting change. I like to say that many talk therapies are like a bandaid that works for
awhile, but will need replacement; while it often takes deeper work to get the wound healed
for good. That is where I come in.
I move towards my clients with curiosity and compassion so that together we can
unravel the ways in which healing is possible. I am interested in the ways in which my
clients connect with their present experience and invite that knowledge to guide us
toward the memories, beliefs and patterns that are no longer serving them so that
they can learn new, healthier ways of being.
THEORETICAL ORIENTATION:
I approach therapy with an integrative, experiential framework. Depending on my
client’s needs, I utilize various methodologies, including AEDP and the triangle of
change, Hakomi and the principles of Mindfulness, Interpersonal Neurobiology,
Somatic Experiencing, Attachment/SIMBS theory, Non-violent Communication,
Psychodynamic theory, Relational Theory, Internal Family Systems principles,
Trauma Informed practices, Transpersonal Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
(CBT), and Gestalt.
I am currently a Level 1 AEDP therapist and actively working on attaining my
complete AEDP certification. Additionally, I completed Hakomi Mindful Somatic
Psychotherapy, Module 1, META Primary Attachment Psychotherapy, and the
first of a two-part EMDR training.
